How to blur an image

  1. Open the image you want to soften

Choose, drop or paste an image. The blur applies to the whole image, so use a separate image if you only need a blurred background.

  2. Adjust the blur intensity

Move Blur intensity from 0 to 40 px, or try the Light, Soft and Strong presets. Check the preview to choose the amount of softening.

  3. Save or continue editing

Choose the output format and download the blurred image. Select Apply changes if you want to resize, crop or otherwise edit the softened result.

This tool blurs the whole image. A subtle blur makes a background for text or a presentation.

Supported formats & limits

Open one image at a time (up to 30 MB): JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or AVIF where your browser supports it. Save as JPG, PNG or WebP, with outputs limited to 12,000 pixels per side and 40 megapixels in total. Animated GIFs export as a still image; HEIC is not supported. WebP export needs browser encoding support (otherwise PNG is used); blur requires Canvas filters.

Images are processed in your browser. Image contents and filenames are not sent to our servers or analytics. Refreshing or leaving the tools area clears your working image.

Frequently asked questions

Can I blur just a face or part of an image?

This tool applies blur to the entire image. It does not offer a selection brush, face detection or background-only blur.

Is blur suitable for hiding private information?

Do not rely on this effect to conceal sensitive text or faces. The tool creates a visual blur, not secure redaction. Remove sensitive content or cover it with an opaque shape using an editor that supports redaction.

Why is blur unavailable in my browser?

Blur requires Canvas filter support. If the tool reports that blur is unsupported, use a browser that supports Canvas filters.

Do my images get uploaded?

No. Images are processed locally in your browser. The website uses the anonymous page analytics described in our privacy policy, but image contents and filenames are not collected.

Can I combine edits?

Yes. Select Apply changes to keep an edit before continuing with another tool, or choose Apply & switch when prompted. Undo and Redo move through applied edits, and Restore original returns to the source image. Download your result before refreshing or leaving the tools area.

Continue editing

Need a different frame for the softened image? Crop the image to keep the area you want.

Preparing a background at a specific size? Resize the image and check the output dimensions.

Apply your changes?

Keep these changes before switching tools, or discard them and continue with your last applied image.

Leave without downloading?

Your current image and edits live only in this tab. Leaving the tools area clears this session. Keep editing to download your result first, or leave and discard the session.
