How to convert JPG to PNG

  1. Open your JPG or JPEG image

Choose a JPG or JPEG file, drop it into the workspace, or paste a copied image. Both filename extensions refer to the same input format.

  2. Keep PNG selected as the output

PNG is selected for this converter. PNG export is lossless and has no quality slider; it saves the rendered image without another lossy encoding step.

  3. Check the file size and download PNG

Review the output dimensions and file size, then select Download image. PNG files can be larger than their JPG source.

JPG is useful for photos; PNG preserves transparency; WebP can keep files small.

Supported formats & limits

Open one image at a time (up to 30 MB): JPG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or AVIF where your browser supports it. Save as JPG, PNG or WebP, with outputs limited to 12,000 pixels per side and 40 megapixels in total. Animated GIFs export as a still image; HEIC is not supported. WebP export needs browser encoding support (otherwise PNG is used); blur requires Canvas filters.

Images are processed in your browser. Image contents and filenames are not sent to our servers or analytics. Refreshing or leaving the tools area clears your working image.

Frequently asked questions

Does converting JPG to PNG restore image quality?

No. PNG does not recover detail already lost to JPG compression or remove existing compression artifacts. It preserves the rendered image without adding another lossy JPG encoding step.

Will converting to PNG make the background transparent?

No. PNG supports transparency, but conversion does not remove a background. The opaque pixels in your JPG remain opaque in the PNG.

Why is the PNG file larger than the JPG?

PNG uses lossless compression, while JPG commonly uses lossy compression that stores photographs more compactly. A larger PNG does not mean that the image gained detail.

Do my images get uploaded?

No. Images are processed locally in your browser. The website uses the anonymous page analytics described in our privacy policy, but image contents and filenames are not collected.

Can I combine edits?

Yes. Select Apply changes to keep an edit before continuing with another tool, or choose Apply & switch when prompted. Undo and Redo move through applied edits, and Restore original returns to the source image. Download your result before refreshing or leaving the tools area.

Need a specific width or height? Resize the image before your final download.

For JPG or WebP output, adjust compression quality to compare detail and file size.

Apply your changes?

Keep these changes before switching tools, or discard them and continue with your last applied image.

Leave without downloading?

Your current image and edits live only in this tab. Leaving the tools area clears this session. Keep editing to download your result first, or leave and discard the session.
